Victory on matchday eight launches Real Sociedad into sixth place in the Primera Division standings, lifting them to 13 points and pulling them within 11 points of league leaders Barça. Meanwhile, Deportivo La Coruña slide to eighth position in the table with this defeat, leaving them 14 points adrift of the summit.
The hosts had experienced mixed fortunes at home earlier in the season alongside a recent victory away at Valencia, though they managed to build a comfortable advantage here through goals from J. Martin (assisted by C. Soler), A. Zakharyan, and G. Guedes (assisted by A. Barrenetxea). Deportivo arrived attempting to reverse a three-match winless streak across all competitions despite a respectable away record, and they fought back as M. Soriano (assisted by R. Rodriguez) and Y. Hernandez scored. The visitors also saw Lorenzo Amatucci sent off in the final moments after Pablo Marín had earlier received a red card for the hosts, with Mario Soriano and Yeremay Hernández both earning stellar 8.2 ratings for Deportivo alongside 7.9 ratings for high performers Jon Martin and Arsen Zakharyan.
Real Sociedad finished tenth in the table last season with 46 points, whereas Deportivo now sit two places behind their opponents after 21 shots yielded seven efforts on target compared to twelve attempts from the hosts.
Real Sociedad next play away at Málaga on 18 October.
