Málaga added another defeat to their winless home record on this October 18, 2026, as Real Sociedad claimed three away points with a 5-2 victory on matchday nine of the Primera Division. Takefusa Kubo opened the scoring after three minutes with an assist from Hector Fort, and Orri Steinn Óskarsson added a second before halftime. Adrian Nino pulled one back for the hosts with help from Pablo Martínez Andrés in the 54th minute, but Mikel Oyarzabal restored the visitors' two-goal cushion following a pass from Takefusa Kubo. Although Pablo Martínez Andrés scored again for Málaga shortly after, further strikes from Mikel Oyarzabal—assisted by Jon Martin—and Gonçalo Guedes sealed the outcome.
