Genoa CFC 1 - 0 Venezia FC — Highlights & Result

Recent encounters between these clubs have offered little breathing room, illustrated by a previous meeting where Venezia won two goals to nil. They met again on Serie A matchday 8 as Mikael Ellertsson decided the contest with a 25th-minute strike, assisted by Stephan El Shaarawy. Ellertsson earned an 8-rated performance for his efforts on the pitch, while M. Dagasso stood out for the visitors with a 7.2 rating. Despite Venezia enjoying the lion's share of possession at 55 percent and registering 19 total shots, they could not find a breakthrough past J. Bijlow, who posted a 7.8 rating in goal.

The hosts arrived having finished 16th in this competition last season with 41 points, though they struggled early on with a poor scoring rate. They had managed just five goals across their opening seven fixtures, alongside an away defeat against Roma. Venezia travelled seeking a spark after a difficult start that left them at the foot of the standings, despite a recent home win against Napoli providing a brief lift.

With this outcome, Genoa moved up one position into 16th place in the table. Meanwhile, Venezia remained at the bottom in 20th place, leaving them 19 points behind the league leaders Inter.

Genoa next play at home to Juventus on 28 October.
