Genoa finished 16th in Serie A last season with 41 points, while Frosinone finished the previous term in a different position. On matchday 4 of the current season on 12 September 2026, Genoa and Frosinone played to a 1–1 draw. Giorgi Kvernadze opened the scoring for Frosinone in the 14th minute with an assist from R. Schmid, earning an 8 rating as the highest-rated player for his team. Lorenzo Colombo missed a penalty for Genoa in first-half stoppage time before J. Vasquez equalised in the 50th minute, assisted by D. Sow. Johan Vásquez later received a red card in the 86th minute, though he had earlier recorded a 7.3 rating, while Justin Bijlow finished as Genoa's highest-rated player with a 7.6. Frosinone controlled 56 percent of possession and registered 26 shots, outshooting Genoa's 17 attempts, while expected goals finished closely at 1.93 to 1.88.
Genoa entered the match struggling through a difficult run, having failed to win any of their previous eight matches across all competitions, a stretch that included five consecutive defeats and a home loss against Como 1907. Their domestic start had yielded zero points from three played and a goal difference of minus six. Frosinone arrived in strong form following recent successes, including a three-goal victory at Fiorentina, leaving them seventh in the standings with six points from three matches. This stalemate was enough to lift Frosinone up to fifth place in the table.
Recent fixtures between the two clubs have been tightly contested, echoing a 1–1 draw in their most recent previous meeting in March 2024, alongside a 2–1 victory for Frosinone in November 2023. Those matches form the entirety of the head-to-head record between the clubs in competition data since 2023.
Following this result, Frosinone sit two points behind league leaders Roma, who lead the twenty-team table with nine points. Genoa find themselves eight points off the top of the standings and will next play away at Parma on 20 September.
