SS Lazio 1 - 0 Genoa CFC — Highlights & Result

Recent history heavily favoured the capital club in this fixture, with Genoa having suffered five defeats in their last six encounters against Lazio, including a 3-2 loss earlier in the year. That past dominance continued on matchday 2 as Davide Frattesi broke the deadlock in the 25th minute, turning in an assist from N. Tavares. Despite Genoa enjoying 54 percent possession and registering eight shots, they managed only a single effort on target as Lazio's defence held firm. Standout performer Davide Frattesi earned a 7.5 rating for the hosts, while Junior Messias led the visitors with a 7.7 rating.

The visitors arrived searching for a spark after a difficult stretch across all competitions that had left them without a victory in six matches and on a three-match losing run. Meanwhile, Lazio looked to build on a mixed sequence of results from the end of the previous term, where they finished 9th with 54 points, compared to Genoa's 16th-place finish with 41 points. The hosts had opened the current league schedule with 3 points from their first outing and a +1 goal difference.

This victory propelled Lazio up the standings from 11th into 4th place in the 20-team division. Genoa remained rooted near the bottom of the table after recording their second consecutive defeat of the league schedule, leaving them with zero points and a -2 goal difference. Inter currently leads the standings with 6 points, placing Genoa six points behind the summit.

Genoa will attempt to halt their losing streak when they host Como 1907 on 4 September. Lazio will travel away to face Udinese on 7 September.
