The Ligue 1 table sees Paris Saint Germain leading the eighteen teams on fourteen points after matchday seven, leaving ES Troyes AC ten points off the pace in seventeenth place. Meanwhile, Racing Club de Lens have jumped into seventh position and sit just four points behind the leaders following Sunday's action.
Lens arrived at this fixture searching for an away victory after failing to win their first three matches on the road in the competition, though they finished runners-up in the league last term with seventy points. Troyes hosted the visitors stuck in a difficult spell, having suffered four consecutive defeats across all competitions and possessing a home record that included zero wins from their first three matches in front of their own supporters.
The encounter swung when Adrien Monfray turned the ball into his own net in the thirteenth minute to gift the visitors an opening. Timothee Nkada hauled the hosts level on twenty-six minutes, earning a top rating of 8 for his efforts. However, Odsonne Édouard restored the advantage right before half-time with an assist from Florian Thauvin, who orchestrated proceedings to earn an 8.6 rating. Ruben Aguilar added a third after the break, again supplied by Thauvin, while possession finished at forty-one percent to fifty-nine percent in favour of the visitors despite Troyes registering more shots on target.
Troyes will next travel to play away at Toulouse on 24 October.
