Strasbourg finished eighth in Ligue 1 last term, sitting several places above where they began this matchday in twelfth, while Troyes had started the afternoon brightly in seventh. A six-goal outburst on the road completely flipped that early table, vaulting Strasbourg up to fourth. Troyes slid down to ninth despite generating a higher shot count, undone by clinical finishing from the visitors on matchday 3.
The hosts had taken confidence from a recent away victory at Lorient, whereas Strasbourg arrived having experienced mixed fortunes lately, including a heavy defeat at Marseille amid a run featuring three wins from their last five outings. Despite that rocky patch, Strasbourg capitalized fully on their chances here. Antoine Mille opened the scoring early for Troyes with an assist from A. Ouzenadji, earning an 8.7 rating, but Strasbourg soon took control. J. Ortega and D. Sousa struck before the break to turn the tide.
After half-time, G. Reyna added another before S. Amo-Ameyaw delivered a standout performance, earning an 8.9 rating by scoring twice late on alongside a goal from C. Harder. J. Le Douaron netted a late consolation for Troyes with help from K. Diawara, whose display was rated 8.2, but the damage was done. Troyes managed forty-five percent possession and twenty-seven shots overall, yet Strasbourg converted twelve attempts on target to seal the 6-2 scoreline.
Following this outcome, Strasbourg sit just three points behind early league leaders Monaco. Troyes will attempt to bounce back when they travel to face Lille on September 13.
