The 2-1 outcome on matchday nine leaves both clubs sitting sixteen points behind league leaders Barça, who currently set the pace with twenty-seven points in the twenty-team division. For the hosts, the reward is a jump from twelfth up to eighth place in the table.
Celta entered the contest carrying an unbeaten five-match run and looking to improve upon a home record that featured just one victory in four attempts. Their opponents, Alavés, arrived searching for answers after a four-match winless streak across all competitions, hampered by an away record featuring zero wins from three tries. Recent history between the sides showed an even split in records since 2023, though Alavés took the previous victory at this stadium back in March.
The match turned in the second half when Ferran Jutglà broke the deadlock in the fifty-third minute with an assist from Javier Rodríguez Galiano. Rodríguez Galiano struck again in the seventy-first minute, set up by Iago Aspas, before Hugo Novoa Ramos pulled one back for the visitors in the eighty-seventh minute following an assist by Mariano Díaz. Standout performers included I. Radu and Javier Rodríguez Galiano, who both earned an 8.2 rating for the home side, while Hugo Novoa posted a 7.5 for Alavés despite the defeat.
Looking ahead to their next fixtures, Celta remain at home to face Real Betis on October 25, while Alavés return home to play Málaga on October 23.
