RC Celta de Vigo saw their six-match winless run in all competitions definitively ended on September 19, 2026, as they swept aside Real Racing Club de Santander in this Primera Division matchday 7 fixture. H. Gonzalez opened the scoring from the penalty spot in the 32nd minute, before I. Moriba added a second just before half-time with an assist from M. Roman. M. Roman then got on the scoresheet himself in the 69th minute, and P. Duran rounded off the afternoon with two further goals in the 78th and 90th minutes, both assisted by H. Alvarez.
The hosts had struggled for goals in the Primera Division this season, averaging only 0.5 goals per game prior to kick-off while sitting 18th in the table. Despite holding just 41 percent possession, Celta made the most of their opportunities by registering nine shots on target compared to Santander's five, producing an expected goals total of 2.14. Standout performances drove the hosts forward, led by M. Roman with an exceptional 8.9 rating and I. Moriba earning an 8.6 rating. Meanwhile, Santander arrived having scored in four consecutive matches across all competitions, but their defensive vulnerabilities on the road surfaced once again as they suffered their fourth away defeat of the season.
This result dramatically shifts the landscape for both clubs in the lower half of the Primera Division standings. Celta jumped from 18th up to 11th place, while Santander dropped from 12th down to 14th following the heavy defeat. Both clubs now sit 11 points behind the division leaders, Barça, who currently lead the 20-team table on 18 points.
