RC Celta de Vigo 1 - 2 CA Osasuna — Highlights & Result

The gap between last season's sixth-placed finishers and their sixteenth-placed counterparts narrowed sharply on August 27, 2026, as CA Osasuna took a 2-1 away victory against RC Celta de Vigo on Primera Division matchday 1. The result alters the early league table significantly, pushing Osasuna up to 6th place with 2 points, just two behind leaders Real Madrid. Meanwhile, Celta slid down to 14th place with 1 point from their opening two fixtures.

Celta had entered the match carrying a three-match unbeaten run, despite finishing six places above their visitors last term. Their recent outings included a scoreless draw away at Valencia, though this contest shifted after I. Aspas opened the scoring in the 14th minute with an assist from M. Roman. The complexion of the game transformed entirely following a 51st-minute red card shown to Marcos Alonso. Osasuna capitalised swiftly through K. Barja, assisted by R. Garcia in the 54th minute, before A. Budimir converted a 64th-minute penalty. The visitors generated 13 shots to Celta's 4, underlining their territorial pressure as Sergio Carreira earned an 8-rated performance for the hosts alongside Iago Aspas at 7.6, while Alejandro Catena stood out for Osasuna with a 7.5 rating.

Head-to-head encounters between these clubs have historically proven volatile, mirrored by Osasuna repeating their exact 2-1 scoreline from their previous visit to this ground on 6 February 2026. This victory also halted a winless sequence for Osasuna that had stretched across six matches in all competitions.

Celta will seek an immediate response when they play at home to Athletic on 30 August.
