This history set the stage for an extraordinary meeting where Paris FC ultimately triumphed 4-3, overturning that previous head-to-head record through an exceptional attacking display driven by Maxime López and L. Sinayoko, who earned a standout 9.5 rating.
Paris FC arrived on the back of a strong home run, having remained unbeaten across their three home matches this season alongside a five-match sequence that featured three victories, including a 3-2 win away at Marseille. Meanwhile, Stade Rennais entered matchday 7 having won four of their six league fixtures this term, though their recent outings included a 4-1 home victory against Auxerre balanced by a 0-4 away defeat at Olympique Lyon. On the pitch, Paris FC registered 19 shots with 9 on target against Stade Rennais's 12 shots and 7 on target, reflecting an expected goals tally of 3.71 to 3.08.
The breathless scoring sequence began when Maxime López netted in the 14th minute from a Lassine Sinayoko assist, before Esteban Lepaul equalized with a 29th-minute penalty. Maxime López restored the home side's advantage in added time of the first half, again assisted by Lassine Sinayoko. The second half brought further drama through penalties from Esteban Lepaul in the 74th and 88th minutes, sandwiching a goal by Lassine Sinayoko in the 76th minute. Finally, Lassine Sinayoko converted a penalty in the 90+7th minute to seal the 4-3 scoreline.
This result propelled Paris FC from 6th to 2nd in the table, while Stade Rennais dropped from 4th to 5th. In the 18-team standings, PSG led the table on 14 points, leaving Stade Rennais 1 point behind the leaders. Looking ahead, Paris FC next play away at RC Lens on 24 October.
