Liverpool found themselves unable to break a frustrating five-match winless run across all competitions on August 29, 2026, as Nottingham Forest earned a 2-2 draw on matchday two of the Premier League. The stalemate moved Liverpool up to 10th place in the table, while Nottingham Forest advanced to 12th. Both clubs now sit outside the early pace set by leaders Manchester City, with Liverpool trailing the top spot by four points and Nottingham Forest lagging five points behind.
The hosts had arrived on Merseyside looking to turn around a prolonged slump that featured five consecutive matches without a victory, though they did extend a scoring streak to seven games. Dan Ndoye opened the scoring in the 24th minute for the visitors, assisted by Morgan Gibbs-White. Alexander Isak equalized for Liverpool on the hour mark from a Cody Gakpo assist, before Morgan Gibbs-White restored the visitors' advantage from the penalty spot in the 70th minute. Víctor Muñoz then salvaged a draw for Liverpool in the 82nd minute, set up by Florian Wirtz. Among the standout performers, Neco Williams earned a stellar 8.9 rating for the visitors, while Jérémy Jacquet collected an 8.3 rating for the hosts.
Recent fixtures between these teams have proved tightly contested, highlighted by Nottingham Forest taking a 3-0 victory in this exact stadium in November 2025. Despite controlling 69 percent of possession and registering 13 shots overall, Liverpool could not translate their territorial advantage into a full victory against a stubborn visiting side that managed 12 attempts and a superior expected goals total of 2.30.
Looking ahead, Liverpool will travel to face Ipswich Town on September 4.
