Everton FC 2 - 0 Crystal Palace FC — Highlights & Result

Looking back at recent fixtures, meetings between these clubs have often been hard-fought, including a 2-2 draw earlier in the year where neither side could establish dominance. Everton held a strong historical edge in this matchup, having won four of their previous meetings since 2023 with no defeats against Crystal Palace in that span.

Both teams arrived at the opening matchday of the Premier League season looking to reverse difficult winless runs that had stretched across seven matches in all competitions. Everton finished 13th in the standings last season with 49 points, just four spots and four points ahead of Crystal Palace, who ended their previous campaign in 15th place. Despite Crystal Palace controlling the majority of possession at 58% and generating a higher expected goals figure of 1.96, Everton made the most of their 16 total shots. Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall opened the scoring in the 42nd minute with an assist from H. Armstrong, before T. Barry added a second in the 53rd minute, set up by I. Ndiaye. Stellar defensive work and sharp goalkeeping helped Jordan Pickford earn an 8.3 rating, while Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall stood out with an 8.7 rating for the hosts.

Following this result, Arsenal led the table on 3 points among the ten teams that had played, leaving Crystal Palace sitting 3 points behind the early leaders.

Crystal Palace next play at home to Man City on 28 August.
