Recent meetings between SV Werder Bremen and FC Augsburg had swung towards the visitors, who took victory here earlier in the year when Robin Fellhauer and his teammates last visited. That encounter was part of a tight historical ledger between the clubs, featuring two wins apiece alongside two draws across their previous six encounters.
Augsburg arrived carrying a three-match unbeaten run that included a high-scoring draw against Leverkusen. They continued that offensive form when R. Fellhauer opened the scoring in the 18th minute, assisted by F. Rieder, before C. Brackelmann doubled their advantage after the break with help from A. Claude-Maurice. Bremen had maintained a steady scoring record in their recent outings, though they sat lower in the table after a mixed start to the season that included a heavy defeat at Freiburg.
The match swung dramatically in the final half-hour as Bremen overturned the two-goal deficit through a relentless attacking display that yielded twenty total shots. M. Grull sparked the comeback in the 66th minute from a Chuki assist, before N. Fullkrug equalised late on. M. Weiser then completed the turnaround in the 90th minute, again assisted by M. Grull, sealing a victory underpinned by 66 percent possession and 2.78 expected goals. Standout performers Chuki, earning an 8.5 rating, and M. Grull, with an 8.3, drove the hosts forward.
The result lifts Bremen into sixth place in the Bundesliga standings after four matches played. Augsburg remain on seven points following their first defeat of the domestic term. Both sides sit three points behind league leaders Bayern in the eighteen-team table.
