SV Werder Bremen 3 - 1 RB Leipzig — Highlights & Result

SV Werder Bremen turned last season's struggles completely upside down on matchday 2 of the Bundesliga, leaving RB Leipzig behind as the table began to take shape on 5 September 2026. While Bremen spent the previous term battling near the bottom in 15th place with 32 points, RB Leipzig comfortably collected 65 points to finish 3rd. This outcome reshuffled the early standings, lifting Bremen from 16th into 9th place and dropping RB Leipzig from 4th down to 7th in an 18-team division currently led by Freiburg on six points.

The hosts arrived searching for a spark after a winless run across five matches in all competitions that included a 1-4 loss away at Freiburg, leaving them at the foot of the table with zero points and a -3 goal difference. RB Leipzig visited with three points from their opening fixture and a scoring streak across nine matches in all competitions, though their recent travels also featured a 1-4 loss away at Freiburg. Despite enjoying 71 percent possession and registering 19 shots, the visitors could not halt a sequence where recent history offered little separation, recalling a previous 1-2 defeat at this stadium on 4 April 2026.

E. Dinkci opened the scoring in the 4th minute with an assist from Chuki, setting the tone before N. Fullkrug added a second in the 68th minute, helped by M. Grull. M. Grull then extended the advantage in the 80th minute, earning a standout rating of 8.9 alongside teammate Amos Pieper with 7.9. R. Baku pulled one back for the visitors in the 90th minute following an assist by A. Maksimovic, rounding off a performance where both Ridle Baku and Maxime Estève recorded ratings of 7.3 for RB Leipzig.

Bremen take their next steps away at 1. FC Köln on 12 September, while RB Leipzig travel to face Como 1907 on 10 September.
