Real Betis finished fifth last season with 60 points, whereas Osasuna ended down in 16th with 42 points. That gap in quality widened significantly on matchday 8 of the Primera Division as Real Betis triumphed 5-2, a scoreline sparked by an early penalty from Isco. Abde Ezzalzouli added a second before the break, and after an Ante Budimir own goal, Osasuna fought back through a Budimir strike and a goal from Raúl García, who earned a standout 7.6 rating. Normal service was soon restored for the hosts as Isco netted his second, and José Antonio Morante Antúnez rounded off the scoring in added time with an assist from Héctor Bellerín.
Real Betis arrived at the match holding a strong home record this season alongside a ten-match scoring run across all competitions, extending an unbeaten streak that included wins against Real Madrid and Villarreal. Osasuna travelled on the back of four matches without a victory and a heavy defeat against Atleti. Recent history also favoured the hosts, who had won away at Osasuna 2-0 in May 2024 without dropping a fixture against them in their last six encounters.
The outcome lifted Real Betis into third place in the table on 19 points, putting them five points behind the leaders Barça. Osasuna remained 16th in the standings on eight points, leaving them 16 points adrift of the summit.
Real Betis next play at home to Porto on 14 October.
