The standings at the top of Serie A shifted on matchday 7 as Milan moved up to fourth place, leaving them just four points behind leaders Inter. Atalanta now sit ten points off the summit following this five-goal encounter, with the table led by Inter on 19 points in the 20-team division.
Milan entered this fixture maintaining a long scoring run and an unbeaten start to their league schedule, having notched eleven goals across their first six outings. Atalanta arrived on the back of three wins and three defeats from their opening six matches of the season. Gonçalo Ramos opened the scoring from the penalty spot in the 24th minute before Adrien Rabiot doubled the lead before half-time, assisted by Diego Moreira. Although Ramos missed a penalty shortly after the interval, Mario Gila added a third with an assist from Rabiot, earning the defender a 7.9 rating and Rabiot a standout 9-rating. Atalanta responded through Gianluca Gaetano, assisted by Nicola Zalewski, and a later strike by Nikola Krstović, who finished with a 7.6 rating after being set up by Raoul Bellanova.
Recent history favoured the visitors in this fixture, as Milan had endured a winless run against Atalanta in their previous meetings since 2023, which included a defeat here earlier in the year on 10 May 2026. Milan generated 11 shots with 6 on target from 56 percent possession, while Atalanta registered 12 shots and 4 on target.
Milan next travel away to Udinese on 25 October, while Atalanta return home to face Frosinone on the same day.
