Borussia Dortmund arrived on this UEFA Champions League matchday without a win in three matches across all competitions, a slide that included a scoreless league draw at Union Berlin. That winless sequence finally ended here thanks to a decisive display from Serhou Guirassy. The visitors controlled the tempo and carved open the hosts repeatedly, generating a heavy volume of attempts that reflected their 55 percent possession. Guirassy set the tone early by finding the net in the tenth minute. Although Aden McCarthy pulled Sabah FK level before the break with assistance from Tymoteusz Puchacz, Guirassy restored the advantage shortly after halftime by converting a pass from Joey Veerman. That second strike proved enough to seal the outcome despite Sabah FK testing the opposing defence with thirteen total shots.
The visitors climbed from eighteenth to tenth in the standings on three points. For Sabah FK, this setback halts the positive feelings generated by their previous home victory against Slavia Praha, dropping them from twenty-first down to twenty-third in the table. The hosts matched their opponents in effort by creating thirteen chances, with McCarthy earning a team-high rating of 7.2 and S. Pokatilov finishing on 7. Yet the statistical profile heavily favoured the away side, who accumulated an expected goals figure of 3.74 and forced nine saves. Guirassy led the individual performers with a standout rating of 9.5, while Veerman added a 7.7 rating.
With this result in the books, the 36-team table is currently led by Paris Saint-Germain on six points, leaving Sabah FK three points behind the leaders. Borussia Dortmund will return to action at home against Frankfurt on 24 October.
