A desperate losing streak finally ended for the hosts, yet they were left still searching for a victory after being held to a draw on matchday 1 of the UEFA Champions League on 10 September 2026. FK Shakhtar Donetsk extended their scoring run when G. Mendoza found the net right before halftime, assisted by Isaque Silva. However, S. Dest quickly leveled for PSV just after the break in the 48th minute, with an assist from A. Obispo.
PSV arrived at the fixture desperate to reverse a slump, having suffered three losses in a row across all competitions, leaving them without a victory over their previous three outings. Their recent European schedule included a heavy 0-3 defeat away at Newcastle. Meanwhile, FK Shakhtar Donetsk maintained their knack for finding the back of the net, continuing a scoring sequence that now spans five matches across all competitions, a run that featured a 1-3 loss away at Dortmund. The visitors also looked back at a recent 2-3 defeat against PSV in late 2024.
The tight contest saw PSV edge the possession with 54 percent to 46 percent, while both teams registered two shots on target from 10 and eight total attempts respectively. Among the standout performers, Sergiño Dest earned the highest rating for the hosts with a 7.9.
Following this stalemate, the 28-team table is currently led by PSG on three points, leaving both PSV and FK Shakhtar Donetsk sitting two points behind the leaders.
