1. FSV Mainz 05 0 - 0 SC Paderborn 07 — Highlights & Result

Mainz saw their scoring run snapped on the opening weekend of the Bundesliga term, as an attacking barrage failed to break the deadlock. Despite mustering 21 shots to the visitors' 10, the hosts could not find a breakthrough, leaving both teams sharing a point. SC Paderborn defended stoutly throughout the afternoon, successfully keeping the hosts at bay despite conceding an expected goals tally of 1.23 to their own 0.73. Goalkeeping heroics ultimately preserved the clean sheet for the away side, with Nahuel Noll earning a stellar 8.2 rating for his efforts between the posts alongside teammate Laurin Curda.

Mainz reached this fixture on the back of a mixed sequence of results that featured three victories from their last five outings, most notably a 2-0 win away at Heidenheim. That scoring streak, which had stretched across five consecutive matches in all competitions, ground to a halt against a resilient defensive structure. Meanwhile, Mainz finished the previous season in 10th place after accumulating 40 points.

Following this opening day stalemate, the early Bundesliga table sees Bayern sitting at the summit on three points among the 12 teams currently ranked. Both Mainz and SC Paderborn find themselves two points adrift of the early league leaders.

Looking ahead to the next round of fixtures, SC Paderborn return to their home ground to face Freiburg on September 5. Mainz face a trip on the road to play HSV on September 6.
