The opening weekend of the Bundesliga season brought together the team that finished top of the table last term with 89 points and the side that placed fourth with 62 points. Bayern underlined their status right away on 28 August 2026, putting five past Stuttgart while limiting their visitors to just a single goal at the other end. D. Upamecano opened the scoring in the 21st minute from a J. Kimmich assist, before J. Vagnoman leveled for Stuttgart shortly after the interval. M. Olise restored the lead with help from J. Kimmich, an own goal by J. Vagnoman widened the gap, and late strikes from A. Pavlovic and L. Diaz—both set up by I. Saibari—sealed the outcome. The statistical dominance was reflected in 21 total shots to Stuttgart's 11, alongside an expected goals figure of 4.06 against 0.79.
Both sides had arrived on encouraging runs of form, with Bayern maintaining their scoring streak that extended to ten matches across all competitions, while Stuttgart had also found the net in six consecutive games. The historical head-to-head record favored the hosts heavily, as Bayern had won five of the last six meetings between the clubs since 2023, including a 5-0 away victory in December 2025.
Standout performances shaped the afternoon, highlighted by stellar ratings for Bayern's orchestrators; J. Kimmich earned an 8.5 and I. Saibari matched that with an 8.5. Fabian Bredlow and Maximilian Mittelstädt put in the strongest shifts for the visitors, earning ratings of 7.9 and 7.5 respectively.
Bayern next play away at Schalke on 5 Sep.
