A sensational evening of UEFA Champions League action on 14 October 2026 propelled Aston Villa from 12th all the way to 2nd in the 36-team table. With the standings now led by Paris Saint-Germain on six points, the Birmingham club sits just behind the summit after an astonishing display of finishing on matchday two. Meanwhile, the Turkish visitors saw their European journey hit a heavy roadblock, tumbling from 23rd down to 28th in the standings and leaving them five points adrift of the leaders.
Unai Emery’s team arrived at this fixture riding a wave of scoring consistency, having found the net in four consecutive matches across all competitions. That run included a dramatic 3-2 victory away at Tottenham in the Premier League and a tight 3-2 success against Club Brugge in their opening European outing. Fenerbahçe, conversely, stepped onto the pitch looking for a spark after opening their European schedule with a 1-1 home draw against Roma, but they ultimately had no answers as the hosts tore through their defensive lines.
The floodgates opened in the 12th minute through Johan Manzambi, before Nicolas Jackson bagged a brace with strikes set up by Boubacar Kamara and Ross Barkley. Barkley then got on the scoresheet himself from the penalty spot before providing an assist for Ibrahim Mbaye. Late in the match, Tammy Abraham added the sixth following a setup by Alysson Edward Franco da Rocha. Jackson earned a remarkable 9.7 rating for his efforts, while Barkley pulled in a 9.0 rating after a stellar midfield shift, overshadowing the best efforts of İrfan Can Kahveci, who rated 7.2 for the away side.
Looking ahead to their next assignments in the domestic calendar, Aston Villa will travel away to face Newcastle on 17 October. Fenerbahçe must regroup quickly before hosting Slavia Praha on 20 October.
